Mission Us

Mission US

Mission Us is a” multimedia project that immerse players in U.S. history content through free interactive games.” It is mainly used to teach ESL students who either came to US late in their life or grew up in some immigrant family in which they get little knowledge about history and culture of the US.
I as teacher would definitely use it in my classroom. I could have students to play it in their home and report to me their progress, and send to me some questions through Email regarding vocabularies and expressions they could not figure out every other day. That could be considered as a kind of exploring of language in a meaningful and interactive manner.
The tool itself could be very engaging to many students for two reasons. First of all, the pictures on the sites are beautiful and all the historical settings made it very interesting to students. Secondly, to be able to participate in an exotic as well as exciting real history is a fun thing to do for many students.
The one problems of the site is that the some vocabularies appeared in the games is not that up-to-dated. Being exposed to and learn to use some words for old objects in the game is not useful for students’ language practice and improvement in terms of current language use. That I think is not good for many EFL learners who only want to learn a language that they can practice right away.
