I learned about Voice Thread from a short-term workshop months ago but I
never use it personally. It is kind of exciting to give it a try and the experience
is pretty amazing.
In everyday interaction with other people, I think Voice Thread could be
a great supplement. We can integrate pictures, videos and audios description in
one piece together and send it to our friends. They can put their comment in
multimedia ways and check other people’s responses too. It created a kind of a
community in which people are sharing their ideas about a particular subjects
and we could keep all of them together for a long time.
For language teaching practice, it is a wonderful platform to have
students to try out their new language. First of all, it reduces the cost for
teachers to assess students speaking abilities. Teachers can evaluate students’
abilities more efficiently than before.
Secondly, teachers have in control over the subject matter make it
possible to get students to talk about different subjects matter in different
Voice Threads. Thirdly, Voice Thread allows students to have their own time to
prepare. So for low proficient students, adding comment in Voice Thread is an
opportunity to practice and trying out a new language. Fourthly, the community of their own
classmates is the best kind of audiences, which will not shy away most students,
but meanwhile call for students to be seriously enough to deal with the task.
